Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:Rfp)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement – Edit warring related to WP:GS/CASTE. Klinetalkcontribs 20:49, 27 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement – PIA. Heyaaaaalol (talk) 06:47, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Repeated misuse of the talk page with excessive discussions and comments from various Canadian range IPs that are WP:NOTHERE to contribute constructively and violate WP:NOTAFORUM since October. These have been excessive in a way that is unusual for a draft article. Despite IPs being warned, the inappropriate and unconstructive discussions and comments persist and show no sign of ceasing. Trailblazer101 (talk) 07:00, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If there are no disruptive edits from established or confirmed users, only semi is needes Heyaaaaalol (talk) 19:39, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is quite an unusual case. I have posted about it at WP:AN#Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse - draft article about a future film seems to be a long-term draft. Yaris678 (talk) 00:46, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for taking appropriate action to proceed with this issue. I have responded at that discussion. Trailblazer101 (talk) 01:22, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Mellk (talk) 17:28, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Recent, frequent IP vandalism (at least partially from link being shared on x.com) Dgpop (talk) 17:57, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Please enforce WP:CT/AP if possible. IanDBeacon (talk) 23:32, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Edit warring amongst parties with COI. Vandalism by users Preetifeb and Jayantbudgaonkar. Acetyl-CoA35 (talk) 20:02, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected for a period of 2 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. — Newslinger talk 01:56, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Acetyl-CoA35, please note that your edit summary in Special:Diff/1265812833, which states that "Use of Civil Honours as titles is not permitted by Indian Law", is not applicable to Wikipedia, as the inclusion of a civil honour by itself does not violate any Wikipedia policy or guideline. Additionally, your editing history on the article also constitutes edit warring. Please discuss disputed changes on the the article talk page instead of repeatedly reinstating your preferred version of the article; I recommend the BOLD, revert, discuss cycle for dispute resolution. — Newslinger talk 02:03, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
User(s) blocked: Jayantbudgaonkar (talk · contribs). Soft-blocked per Wikipedia:Username policy § Real names, until Jayantbudgaonkar completes account verification. — Newslinger talk 01:56, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IP is edit warring and adding unsourced information. Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 22:16, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked: 2a00:23c7:be13:ca01::/64 (talk · contribs). Partially blocked the IP editor from the article page for 2 weeks for edit warring. Thanks for reporting this. — Newslinger talk 02:19, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Let's see if we can deter the editor for a while. Moxy🍁 22:27, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Some anonymous users changed the date of Shrek 5 to August 2, 2026, when the movie was only scheduled for July 1, 2026 per sources.[1] The Media Expert (talk) 22:28, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Frequent vandalism of timeline; requesting at least semi-protection David James Young || davidjamesyoungwrites@gmail.com (talk) 00:29, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Bbb23 (talk) 01:07, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism. guninvalid (talk) 02:04, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Talk page has largely come to a consensus to exclude casualty and survivor numbers from the infobox pending further developments. Multiple IPs have added them back, breaking WP:3RR. guninvalid (talk) 02:04, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Which level of protection should it be? Autoconfirmed? CrushedAsian255 (talk) 02:14, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Ideally, yes. @CrushedAsian255 CommissarDoggoTalk? 02:16, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    I would argue for extended-confirmed protection for at least two days. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 03:45, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ElijahPepe, pages can usually not be directly extended-confirmed protected when semi-protection hasn't been proven ineffective (see WP:ECP). Proving a need for additional protection didn't take long, though. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 04:15, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High IP of vandalism, made by an individual named John Ernest David or some of Bertrand101 's cohorts claiming some of former CNN PH personalities were transferred to UNTV, despite several users already cleaning up vandalism, any they keep re-adding them without any citations. Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Page was ECP protected 3 years ago due to an edit war. Cannot contact OhNoItsJamie as talk pages aren’t loading for me Heyaaaaalol (talk) 06:18, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Pinging Ohnoitsjamie. — Malcolmxl5 (talk) 12:14, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think lowering protection of that page would be waste of time, but if someone else wants to I won't object. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:17, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
