Record high temperature

I've been told by a local resident that Leicester saw new record high temperatures only a couple of years ago. A quick Googling shows a news article from July of 2022 with record highs cited which exceed those that are within the Wiki article.

Coronavirus

Is section 2.5.3 on coronavirus needed? Except for the two named suburbs a similar paragraph could be included on almost all other UK towns and cities. I propose its removal. Any objections? Rupples (talk) 00:36, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It would be helpful if a narrative with reliable source could be included to support your claim "the lockdowns were worse in Leicester . . ." as that may be sufficient to justify keeping a paragraph on Covid. The paragraph could read "The COVID-19 pandemic brought many social and economic challenges across the country and across the world. Leicester was particularly badly affected in the United Kingdom. From July 2020 the first local lockdown in the country was put in place and all non-essential retail establishments closed again and businesses such as public houses, restaurants and hairdressers were unable to reopen. Citizens of Leicester spent more time subject to restrictions than elsewhere in the country. A report was published in August 2023 and the city’s Director for Public Health said that the effect of the restrictions was only just beginning to be understood. It was hoped that lessons had been and would be learnt and he hoped that the health of the city would be improved during any future pandemic and generally. A hundred extra days had been spent in lockdown and 1171 lives lost by 5th December 2022. In the year following Junes 2020 Leicester suffered more cases and a slower recovery than the rest of the UK".

Thank you. Based on the sources you've highlighted, I now believe a rewritten section is preferable to removal. I'd favour restricting the narrative specifically to Leicester, so for example, removing "across the country and across the world" from the opening sentence, as well as general information about lockdown restrictions - these can be Wikilinked to suitable articles. Nor would I include "It was hoped that lessons had been and would be learnt ... any future pandemic and generally" - comes across as 'well he would say that, wouldn't he?' Always a City
